The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has made $50.8M in grants available to support small businesses. Preference will be given to small businesses whose owners are women, minorities, veterans, members of underrepresented groups, who are focused on serving the Gateway Cities of Massachusetts, applicants that have not been able to receive aid from other federal programs related to COVID-19, and those most negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.  The application was open for 3 weeks from 10/22/2020 – 11/17/2020; awaiting guidance on additional future funding.

Temporary Outdoor Dining for Restaurants and Eateries

The City of Chelsea announces that the application period is open.

Restaurants can offer outdoor dining beginning this April 1st  until November 5th or 60 days after the Governor ends the Pandemic. To expand business opportunities for restaurants, the City will streamline permitting to allow for more flexible outdoor dining options:

  • On private property – Restaurant owners can apply for outdoor dining on private property, such as privately owned parking lots.
  • On sidewalks – The Inspectional Services Department (ISD) will first work with you to identify an appropriate sidewalk space for your restaurant to use.
  • On other public spaces – In addition to sidewalks, you can apply to set up outdoor dining on nearby public land, such as streets or parking spaces. In these cases, both ISD and the Traffic Commission will need to approve permit requests.
  • Alcohol service – With each of these options, if you currently hold a liquor license you may also serve alcohol outdoors.
