Cash Relief for Struggling Chelsea’s Small Businesses

Chelsea, MA— May 8, 2020 The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has hit the City of Chelsea harder than any other community in Massachusetts, devastating its business economy.  The Chelsea Business Foundation has been working closely with the TDI Fellow Carlos Matos, the City Manager Tom Ambrosino, and business members of the TDI Partnership to address new challenges faced by the businesses located in Chelsea’s Downtown business district (TDI District).

The Chelsea Business Foundation secured cash to assist Chelsea Businesses with assistance and cash awards ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 per business.  The first round of cash awards totaling $50,000 was disbursed early this week to more than 20 businesses through a Block Grant awarded by MassDevelopment.  This grant is intended to provide financial relief to small businesses in the TDI district to cover business expenses such as: rent payment, retain key workers and any other similarly critical immediate financial need.

The demand for this cash assistance is great and we continue diligently seeking funds to assist the City of Chelsea businesses.  Next round of financial assistance will start soon and Eligible businesses facing financial distress as a result of COVID-19 will be able to apply.  The Chelsea Business Foundation is urging Latino and Small Businesses to reach out and inquire by emailing should they have any questions or if they need to update their contact information on file.  They can also visit where they can find more information about this and other resources available to Chelsea businesses.
